So I know that more English option and help is available all across Tokyo and Japan nowadays but if ever you need a step-by-step breakdown of withdrawing money in an ATM in Japanese then here is your simple guide.

First, please press this option on the main screen menu which is read as 'ohikidashi = お引き出し’ which means withdrawal.

Second, you can choose between two options. One is passbook and the other is ATM card.

You will then be redirected to this page which says 'Please wait, your card is being processed....'

After that, you will be asked to input your 4-digit pin code/number. If it's correct, the button next to it which means ' 訂正= teisei ' will automatically redirect to the next menu page.

This time, you have to input the amount that you would like to withdraw and then press the button ' 円= yen' and then (確認 = which means confirmed if you would like to proceed.

The amount you wanted to withdraw will be displayed on the screen as the first option and the second line will reflect the remaining balance of your account. You can then click on '発行 hakkou = issue/ print' to continue.

Lastly, the money box (silly as I call them) opens and you can collect your cash nice and easy. Good thing about Japanese ATM is that they can issue coins as well. And please don't forget to get your card and printed receipt above the main screen. Note that if you don't quickly get your cash there will be an alarm beeping on the machine just as a precaution.

Note that if you wish to make a bank transfer (local bank to bank transfer within Japan) the option will only be in Japanese. There is no English version as far as I know.
