Let's get down to the business of topping up your train pass. I would say that most people buy Pasmo or Suica. You can purchase a new one for 500¥. And on that note, I would probably make a video on how you can purchase that. But for now let's see how you can do it quickly without even switching to the English version. It is really very simple. Here's how it goes:
This is the first screen you will see when you approach the nearest train station. It is always located near the entrance gate. But first of all, try to insert your card. The options you will see from the top are きっぷ =which means ticket. You can choose this if you don't have the magnetic card. In other words, manual/regular ticket.
回数券 = kaisuken or book of tickets which honestly I'm unfamiliar so maybe it means like booking for group tickets I guess?? Enlighten me here if I'm wrong.
チャージ = which means charge as it is self-explanatory. And 定期券 = is teikiken which means commuters pass. It is a whole other new process but will get to it on another post.
So basically, choose the チャージ・charge option.
You can choose any options on the screen but if you have broken change or coins for that matter, you can press the lower right corner button. In this case, I opted to charge 100¥.
Enter the exact amount that you would like to charge with and press the green button which means charge. If you make a mistake, press the second button to edit/ correct the amount number.
You will automatically be redirected to this page which shows the overall balance of your card and how much amount you have charged it with at the moment. It will only take about a couple of seconds to process.
And voila!, the machine will spit out your recharged card and you can opt to print the receipt if you press the blue button on the bottom of the screen. And that's it. You can go on your train trips just like that.
Happy travel you guys!
